Research Director - Social Research & Evaluation

Job description

Our client is a leading research and consulting firm dedicated to providing high-quality, evidence-based insights to inform policy and program decisions. They work with a diverse range of clients, including government agencies, non-profit organizations, and foundations, to address complex societal challenges. As a team the work they do supports vulnerable and marginalised communities across areas such as child safety, domestic violence, youth justice, gender equality, education, health, disability and diversity and inclusion.
  
They are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research Director with a strong background in Social Research and Evaluation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and managing large-scale policy evaluation studies, overseeing project design, and ensuring the implementation of state-of-the-art mixed methods approaches. This role will see you join the division's leadership team.
  
Responsibilities:
  
Project Design & Management: Lead the design and management of new evaluation projects, which may involve a combination of qualitative and quantitative research components and mixed methods approaches.
  
Evaluation Methodology: Make informed decisions about the appropriate evaluation methodology and approaches to ensure the validity and reliability of research findings.
  
Project Coordination: Manage and coordinate project activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among team members, clients, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality research outcomes.
  
Team Management & Coaching: As a senior team member you will help manage and mentor the wider team.
  
Thought Leadership: Stay informed about and implement state-of-the-art mixed methods and evaluation techniques within the team to maintain our competitive edge in the field.
  
Data Translation: Lead the translation of data collected through various means (e.g., qualitative interviews, surveys, administrative records, secondary data, etc.) into a coherent assessment that addresses the research and evaluation questions effectively.
  
Requirements:
  • Relevant degree and 6+ years of experience gain in evaluation / social research / policy environment
  • Prior experience of working within a commercial consultancy is a must
  • Expert qual and quant research and evaluation skills
  • Proven experience of having run a large scale evaluation project end to end
  • Track record in writing high quality proposals and tenders
  • Strong reporting and communication skills
  • The ability to direct, lead and inspire more junior research team members
